A dental implant is a small titanium cylinder that
is surgically inserted into the jaw to replace the
root of a missing tooth/teeth.
If there is only a single tooth missing, then a crown
is made to fit over the implant. However, should there
be more than one implant placed, then a bridge, denture
or several crowns can be used.
There are many advantages to using Dental Implants
to replace missing teeth and here are just a few examples:
a) The remaining/ adjacent teeth do not require any
preparation
b) Implants preserve the quantity of bone in the area
and so prevent the appearance associated with bone
loss and ageing
c) Missing teeth can be replaced with fixed replacements
that stay in the mouth and do not need to be removed
d) Loose dentures can be firmly secured with as few
as 2 implants
e) It is now possible to replace an
entire missing set of teeth with as few as 4 implants.
This fantastic technique called "All-on-Four" means that
treatment time is reduced; the amount of surgery required
is minimized; costs are lower; the replacement teeth
are fixed in the mouth.
